The problem is that it happens frequently that for the "same" thing are multiple messages sent, e.g. if i stumble a story, digg it and add it to delicious. I use co.mments.com for blog comment aggregation and tracking. This helps my Facebook friends to see consolidated information about my activities, but does not help, if they don't do it. I think Facebook itself does already a good job in consolidating stuff and more is probably coming by other developers. It's an open platform so somebody (or several sombodies) will come up with solutions one step at a time. It does not solve the one remaining issue which deals with messages within a network sent to you in private. But there might be one sooner than later too. I checked some Google Homepage Gadgets which do exactly that. There is a gadget for Facebook and also one for MySpace. We are getting there... slowly.
