I might go to Vegas because I get free airfare, but I won't have a conference pass. At SES in San Jose... I told several friends to "Just show up" walk around halls and hang out in the hotel bar. (Lurk) At SES in San Jose and especially SES Chicago (because it's freezing), people would likely gather or stay near the main conference hotel. I only went to about half the sessions myself anyway. I saw some of the biggest names in SEO just lurking in the hallways chatting with people. For me, most of the benefit of going is the personal interactions. (Priceless) However... I'm not as confident about this strategy working so well with Vegas. After the sessions, people seem likely to scatter out onto the strip or busy themselves at the blackjack tables. So... I'm not sure if it's worth it or not. I wouldn’t be out of the picture for me to hop on a plane and go anyway.
